Have you left laundry for too long and just don’t want to do it anymore? Is the piles of messy or smelly clothes stress you out?
If yes, I am here to let you know that you can get it done! I will show you how step-by-step in just a few minutes.
Items useful for this task:
- Something to drink
- Something to listen to
- Timer
- Laundry soap
- Laundry basket
But first, we need to get your head-space ready to tackle this!
1. Take a Deep Breath, and Stretch it Out.
I want you to stop for minute, take a deep, long breath in. Hold it for a moment, and let it out. Do this a few more times if you find yourself overwhelmed.
Stretch out your arms, and back, get ready for this task.
2. Grab a Drink, and Pick Your Audio.
Fill a water bottle, or grab your favourite drink. Try to stay hydrated throughout this task.
Turn on your favourite music playlist, audiobook or podcast. Try to avoid visual distractions like TV shows, or movies. One exception to this would be a “body-doubling” video like on YouTube.
3. Let’s Start the Laundry!
Grab a basket or armful of dirty laundry, and take it to the washer. As you load each item in, check the pockets for loose or forgotten items. After the load is nearly full, add your soap, close the lid, set to wash, and click START.
4. Start your Timer.
Start your timer for about 45 minutes.
When the timer goes off continue to Step 5. Until then, let yourself have some fun. Watch a TV show, have a quick nap, go for a walk, whatever you would like. Remember, Step 5 is still there, this break is to encourage you to keep going.
5. Switch the Loads.
Go out to your washer. Move the washed clothes into the dryer. Add a dryer sheet if you want, check the dryer lint trap, close the lid, and click START.
Repeat Step 3 & 4. Add a new load to your washer, start it, and set another timer. Now it’s time for another 45 minute refill break. Your dryer can take 1 hour, so add time to your timer as needed. Remember to get up and continue the steps when the timer goes off.
6. Switch the Loads and Start Folding.
Go out to your dryer, and take the clothes out. Move the washed clothes into the dryer. Add a dryer sheet if you want, check the dryer lint trap, close the lid, and click START.
Repeat Step 3 & 4. Add a new load to your washer, start it, and set another timer.
This time, take your dry clothes and find a small area (like your bed). One item at a time, fold and put away the clothes.
If all you get done today is one load, washed, dried, and put away, celebrate the win! You did this!
Each day, come back to it. You can do this, you have done this. This task can seem scary, but you are stronger and bigger than this task.
